Standardizing Your Bowl-Type Elevator: A Dimension Guide for Replacement Buckets

Введение

Replacing bowl-type elevator buckets appears straightforward at first glance — they are round, they have a base, and they attach to the elevator chain. In practice, however, the replacement process requires confirmation of three specific dimensions that are independent of the bucket’s capacity: the top opening diameter, the base mounting diameter, and the chain attachment geometry. Getting any one of these wrong results in a bucket that either does not fit the elevator chain or does not clear the elevator casing.

This guide provides the complete dimensional reference for all six standard bowl-type elevator bucket sizes, explains the base diameter grouping system that governs chain compatibility, and covers the plasticiser-free food-grade option for direct-contact applications. By the end, you will have the information needed to specify a replacement order with the same precision as a drawing-confirmed industrial component.

Section 1 — Complete Dimension Reference

Complete Bowl-Type Elevator Bucket Specifications: All Six Sizes

The table below provides the complete dimensional specification for all six standard bowl-type elevator bucket sizes. Note particularly the base diameter column — this is the most important dimension for chain compatibility confirmation.

SizeTop Opening DiameterBase Mounting DiameterЕмкостьBase GroupCompatible Chain Attachment
0.8L147mm126mm0.8 litresGroup A (126mm)C-type chain with 126mm base attachment
1.4L150 мм126mm1.4 litresGroup A (126mm)C-type chain with 126mm base attachment
2.0 л208mm126mm2.0 litresGroup A (126mm)C-type chain with 126mm base attachment
3,0 л239mm126mm3.0 litresGroup A (126mm)C-type chain with 126mm base attachment
4,0 л260mm150 мм4.0 litresGroup B (150mm)C-type chain with 150mm base attachment
6.0L281mm150 мм6.0 litresGroup B (150mm)C-type chain with 150mm base attachment

Reading the dimension table: three key points

First, within Group A (126mm base, sizes 0.8L to 3.0L), all sizes share the same base mounting configuration. Consequently, if you need to increase capacity from 1.4L to 2.0L, the change involves only the bucket itself — no modification to the chain attachment hardware is required.

Second, Group B (150mm base, sizes 4.0L and 6.0L) uses a different base attachment configuration. Therefore, upgrading from a Group A size to a Group B size requires modification of the chain attachment hardware and should be confirmed with the elevator supplier before ordering.

Third, the top opening diameter increases with capacity but is not directly proportional — the bowl deepens and widens simultaneously. As a result, casing clearance must be re-checked when upgrading to a larger size within the same base group, even though the base attachment is unchanged.

Section 2 — Casing Clearance Check

Confirming Casing Clearance for Your Replacement Size

The top opening diameter of the bowl-type bucket determines whether the bucket clears the elevator casing walls during operation. On the curved sections of the C-type elevator path — where the chain changes direction around the top and bottom sprockets — the bucket sweeps an arc that is wider than the bucket’s nominal top diameter. Insufficient casing clearance at these points causes the bucket to contact the casing, producing noise, bucket wear, and eventually casing damage.

How to confirm clearance before ordering

  1. Measure the internal casing width at the narrowest point — typically at the curved transition sections at the top and bottom of the elevator
  2. Subtract 20mm as a minimum clearance margin (10mm each side)
  3. The result is the maximum allowable bucket top diameter. Compare to the target bucket size in the specification table above.
  4. If the target size exceeds the maximum allowable diameter, step down to the next smaller size or contact us to discuss casing modification options

For most food packaging C-type elevator installations, the casing is designed to accommodate up to the 3.0L size (239mm top diameter) without modification. Upgrading to 4.0L (260mm) or 6.0L (281mm) typically requires a casing width check and may require elevator modification.

Section 3 — Plasticiser-Free Option

Plasticiser-Free Food-Grade Bowl Buckets: Technical Specification

Standard food-grade PP bowl-type buckets meet FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 and EU Regulation 10/2011 requirements for food contact materials. However, some food applications — particularly pharmaceutical, infant nutrition, organic certified, or products with very low migration thresholds — require a plasticiser-free formulation that provides additional assurance beyond standard food-contact certification.

What plasticisers are and why they matter

Plasticisers are additives used in PP moulding to improve flow characteristics during the injection moulding process. They are not required for the structural performance of the finished bucket, but they are present in the standard material formulation and will migrate into product at trace levels over time, particularly in contact with oily or fatty foods.

For most food applications, the migration levels from standard food-grade PP are within regulatory limits and pose no practical concern. Nevertheless, for applications where migration documentation must be provided to a retail buyer or regulatory authority, or where the product itself is an oil or fat (which enhances plasticiser extraction), the plasticiser-free variant provides a higher compliance ceiling.

Plasticiser-free specification

  • Material: certified virgin PP, plasticiser-free grade — produced without conventional plasticiser additives
  • Compliance: EU Regulation 10/2011 (specific migration limits verified); FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 compliant
  • Available sizes: all six standard sizes (0.8L to 6.0L)
  • Lead time: 15–25 business days from order confirmation (made-to-order — not held in standard stock)
  • MOQ: 100 pieces for standard sizes in plasticiser-free grade
  • Documentation: material test report and compliance declaration provided with first order

How to order the plasticiser-free option: Specify ‘plasticiser-free PP’ when placing your inquiry or order. Provide the compliance documentation requirement (e.g., specific EU Regulation 10/2011 migration test report, FDA self-declaration, or buyer specification reference) and we will confirm the applicable certification package before production begins.

Bowl Type Bucket Replacement

Precision Replacement Starts with the Right Dimensions

Bowl-type elevator bucket replacement is straightforward when the three critical dimensions — top opening diameter, base mounting diameter, and chain attachment configuration — are confirmed before the order is placed. The base diameter grouping (126mm for sizes 0.8L–3.0L; 150mm for sizes 4.0L–6.0L) simplifies within-group upgrades by ensuring chain attachment compatibility across sizes in the same group.

For applications with enhanced food-contact compliance requirements, the plasticiser-free option provides a documented compliance ceiling above standard food-grade PP — available in all six sizes, to order.
